Article by Lydia Holmes, USA Rice

WASHINGTON, DC — John L. Morgan, a vice president of Supreme Rice Mill in Crowley, Louisiana, was named today by U.S. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue to serve a two-year term on the Federal Grain Inspection Service’s (FGIS) Grain Inspection Advisory Committee beginning July 1, 2018.

Morgan is the long-serving chairman of the Rice Millers’ Association Industry Standards Committee which is the main point of contact between the U.S. rice industry and USDA on rough and milled rice standards and technical issues related to rice milling.

The Grain Inspection Advisory Committee meets twice annually to advise FGIS on the programs and services it delivers under the U.S. Grain Standards Act.  The Committee represents all segments of the grain industry, including grain producers, processors, merchandisers, handlers, exporters, consumers, grain inspection agencies, and scientists.

“With his years of experience and industry knowledge, John will be an asset to the advisory committee,” said USA Rice COO Bob Cummings. “We can rest assured that the rice industry’s concerns and priorities about standards will be well represented by John.”
The USA Rice Daily is published Monday through Friday approximately 230 times per year.
The editor is Michael Klein. The deputy editor is Deborah Willenborg.
