    Leadership EXCEL Gets ‘Educated’

    By Elizabeth Miller | Leadership Excel | Comments are Closed | 15 April, 2018 | 0
Leadership EXCEL’s 24th class attended this year’s third session on Wednesday, March 21st, focusing on Education & Workforce Development.
The morning portion began at James Ward Elementary, where Pre-K through 2nd grade demonstrated their “Leader In Me” Program, which allows children to make decisions and set goals on what they want to accomplish throughout the year. Principal Suzanne Doucet then lead a discussion with the class for the future plans with the program. Afterward, the class traveled over to the brand new SOWELA Technical Community College where they received updates from Jeff Davis Parish Superintendent, Kirk Credeur. He also capitalized on meeting the demands of the economy from an education stand point. After, the class received a tour of the start of the art facility.
The afternoon was held at Louisiana State University at Eunice, where campus leadership welcomed the class over lunch. Participants heard from Sondra Cormier speaking on LSUE Academy and their Dual Enrollment programs. She emphasized the fact that area students are earning their high school diplomas while simultaneously graduating with their Associates degree from LSUE. The class later received a tour of campus and the Allied Health Building from Respiratory Care Instructor, Kathleen Warner. The class then made their way over to the Community Education Building where they heard from LSUE Chancellor Dr. Kimberly Russell and got an athletics update from Jeff Willis. Excel participants also held a robust discussion with Holly Boffy, BESE District 7 Member, who provided an overview of topics in K-12 Education.
Leadership Excel participants will engage in an Economic Development session on April 18 throughout Acadia and Jeff Davis Parishes.
Leadership EXCEL stands for Experience in Community, Enterprise and Leadership. The program is designed to prepare emerging leaders to meet the future leadership needs of our community. Through the exchange of viewpoints and experiences, participants are exposed to the challenges, opportunities, and vital issues affecting Acadia and Jeff Davis parishes. The EXCEL program is hosted by the Crowley Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with the Jeff Davis Chamber of Commerce. This program would not be possible without Acadia General Hospital, Lafayette General Health, Home Bank, Jennings American Legion Hospital, Acadia-St. Landry Hospital, Farmers State Bank, Rayne Building & Loan and Suzy Webb with Acadia Parish Farm Bureau.
