Lafayette Schools Credit Union is now Meritus Credit Union

    New leaves. Same roots.

Lafayette, La. — Lafayette Schools Credit Union has proudly served local educators and their families since 1954. Today, they continue that legacy of service with a new name. Lafayette Schools Credit Union is now Meritus Credit Union.

“Changing our name is the first step in a series of strategic decisions designed to ensure great service for our credit union members and potential members,” said Connie Roy, President and CEO of Meritus Credit Union. “Our team does an outstanding job serving members, and we have the potential to provide more services to meet our members’ changing financial needs.”

The name change does not affect anyone’s accounts or funds, and the credit union is not changing ownership. This is not a merger or a buyout. Like all credit unions, Meritus Credit Union is and always will be owned by its members. Ownership is what differentiates credit unions from other types of financial institutions. Meritus was founded in 1954 by local educators. We remain dedicated to serving educators and all school system employees as well as embracing our expanded community charter, making anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Acadia, Iberia, Lafayette, St. Martin and Vermillion parishes membership-eligible.

“Our commitment to our roots is unwavering. We would not be here today without the vision and support of our legacy education community that founded our credit union,” Roy added. “This name change is about the potential to grow long term, so we can better reach out to our community to help enrich and impact the lives of our members to improve their financial well-being. We now have new leaves, the potential for growth, but we’re grounded by the same roots.”
Moving forward, members will continue enjoying the same products and level of service they have come to expect from the same employees who have always served them. Their debit cards, credit cards and existing checks will still work, as will all of their automatic drafts and direct deposits. Visit our website at www.MeritusCU.net and look for information about our innovative products.

Meritus Credit Union is a full-service financial institution with more than $200 million in assets and 22,000 members. For more information about our new name, please contact our office at (337) 989-2800.
