With election season in full force, the Acadia Parish Chamber of Commerce is ready to keep you informed on candidates and issues.
With less than 50 days until Election Day (October 12), the Acadia Parish Chamber of Commerce maintains a strong role in advocating for pro-business policies at the local, state and national levels. We are constantly working with elected leaders to promote these policies to ensure a growing business environment in Acadia Parish. The 2019 Fall Election Cycle has numerous contested seats on the ballot including Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Treasurer, Commissioner of Ag and Forestry, Commissioner of Insurance, and races in all corners of Acadia.
The Acadia Parish Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce our upcoming Candidate Forum. The Chamber’s Legislative Committee has been instrumental in planning these events. The Acadia Parish Candidate Forum is scheduled for Wednesday, September 11th, at the Grand Opera House of the South. A forum featuring candidates for State Senator 25th Senatorial District; Acadia Parish Clerk of Court; and Police Juror Districts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7, will take place at 6:00 p.m. A social for candidates and Chamber members will begin at 5:00 p.m. and doors will open to the public at 5:30 p.m.
State Senator Candidates will be given two minutes to make opening statements, followed by two questions each with two-minute responses with a two-minute closing statement. Candidates for Acadia Parish Police Jury who are seeking a contested seat will be allowed two minutes to address the audience. Candidates for Acadia Parish Clerk of Court who are seeking a contested seat will be allowed three minutes to address the audience. For State Senator candidates, numbers will be drawn to determine the order in which opening remarks will be given and questions will be selected at random. Police Jury Candidates will be recognized in the order of district, and then in alphabetical order. Acadia Parish Clerk of Court Candidates will be recognized in alphabetical order. All candidates will be required to strictly adhere to the specified time limits.
The forum is open to the public and will be presented free of charge by the Acadia Parish Chamber of Commerce. As planning continues, members of the Chamber are encouraged to join the Legislative Committee to take an active part in the planning.
