The Acadia Parish Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce our upcoming Candidates’ Forum. The Chamber’s Legislative Committee has been instrumental in planning these events.
- The Crowley Candidate Forum was held on Thursday, September 27, at the Grand Opera House of the South. A forum featuring candidates for Mayor of the City of Crowley, Crowley Chief of Police, Crowley City Council, and Acadia Parish Police Jury took place at 6:00 p.m.
- The Church Point Candidate Forum was held on Thursday, October 4, at the Church Point Community Center. A forum featuring candidates for Mayor of the Town of Church Point and Church Point Chief of Police took place at 6:00 p.m.
- The Rayne Candidate Forum was held on Tuesday, October 16, at the Rayne Civic Center. A forum featuring candidates for Mayor of the City of Rayne, Rayne Chief of Police and Rayne City Council took place at 6:00 p.m.
- The Iota Candidate Forum is scheduled for Tuesday, October 30, at the Iota Veterans’ Memorial Pavilion. A forum featuring candidates for Mayor of the Town of Iota, Iota Chief of Police and Iota City Council took place at 6:00 p.m.
ALL forums are open to the public and will be presented free of charge by the Acadia Parish Chamber of Commerce. As planning continues, members of the Chamber are encouraged to join the Legislative Committee to take an active part in the planning.
In all forums, Mayoral and Police Chief Candidates will be given two minutes to make opening statements, followed by two questions each with two-minute responses with a two-minute closing statement. Candidates for Acadia Parish Police Jury and City Council who are seeking a contested seat will be allowed two minutes to address the audience. For Mayoral and Chief of Police candidates, numbers will be drawn to determine the order in which opening remarks will be given and questions will be selected at random. Council and Police Jury Candidates will be recognized in order of division and ward, and then in alphabetical order. All candidates will be required to strictly adhere to the specified time limits.
The Chamber’s Legislative Committee is also seeking input from residents of Acadia Parish to be used as questions are formulated for the candidates.
