The Leadership EXCEL program kicked off the year on Wednesday, February 21st. The session featured Leadership through Emergenetics Assessments. Phyllis Dupis and Chris Weaver, Associates of ERI Services and facilitator for the session welcomed the class. Phyllis has a Ph.D. in Educational Administration, a Masters degree and an additional 30 hours of credits with specialties in business education, administration and supervision. She recently completed a critical leadership role as the Regional Director and Interim Chancellor of a college in the largest community and technical college system in the state. Chris is the former state Teacher of the Year and outstanding alumni of Northwestern University. She served as a principal of a high school and an innovative Career Center in Shreveport, Louisiana. In recent years, Chris had the distinction of serving Republican and Democratic governors as the CEO/Executive Director of the state Workforce Commission.
Prior to the session, the Leadership EXCEL class completed the Emergenetics profile survey. Through a series of questions, this survey identifies a person’s thinking & behavioral traits, and is used to create a personal profile. The day was focused on understanding the four thinking attributes and the three behavioral attributes each person exhibits. Through group activities, class discussion and detailed profiles, the participants were given great insight into thinking and behavioral preferences and how to use them to better work with others.
Leadership EXCEL stands for Experience in Community, Enterprise and Leadership. The program is designed to prepare emerging leaders to meet the future leadership needs of our community. Through the exchange of viewpoints and experiences, participants are exposed to the challenges, opportunities, and vital issues affecting Acadia and Jeff Davis parishes. Leadership EXCEL is a program of the Acadia and Jeff Davis Chambers of Commerce.
