Farming is an intricate part of the economic force that drives Acadia Parish, established as a agricultural community and home of the International Rice Festival. Local farmers are the backbone of the area and deserve much thanks and appreciation.
With the help of title sponsor Supreme Rice, a crowd of over 500 farmers, local community leaders and representatives from the numerous businesses that sponsored the event were in attendance on Thursday, January 25 at the Rice Festival Building. The evening began with a social hour with drinks donated by Schilling Distributing followed by a jambalaya dinner served by Chamber board members, volunteers and Acadia parish 4-H leaders.
The evening continued with numerous door prizes such as bags of rice, ice chests and gift certificates were given to those lucky enough to have their door entry ticket number called and a separate raffle was held for a Beretta A300 Outlander, 12-gauge Synthetic shotgun donated by Rice Palace and G&H Outdoor Store. Scott Privat was the lucky winner.
As the saying goes, “The family farm more than a business — the family farm is a lifestyle — it is an ideal worth preserving.”
