The Foundation for SoLAcc is thrilled to announce a new partnership with the Acadia Parish Police Jury to establish an endowed scholarship that will provide critical support to local students in Acadia Parish pursuing higher education at South Louisiana Community College.
“This endowed scholarship is an investment from the Acadia Parish Jury to the people we serve,” explains Walter Andrus, District I Police Juror. “We don’t want financial barriers to stand in the way of education. Our hope is to award a $1,000 scholarship every year into perpetuity to help new generations build their futures in our community.”
Acadia Parish has dedicated a portion of its district’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding to create this scholarship initiative, with a total investment of $20,000. The endowed scholarship was also approved for a one-to-one match from the Louisiana Board of Regents Support Fund (BoRSF), which brings the total scholarship principal to $40,000. The endowment will exist in perpetuity, and annual awards will be based off of the endowment’s income.
The endowed scholarship’s goal is to help uplift the area by offering financial assistance to selected students, regardless of whether they are full-time or part-time, as long as they maintain a GPA of 2.75 or above. There are no specific program requirements for eligibility; however, recipients must be residents of Acadia Parish.
“Our collaboration with the Acadia Parish Police Jury on this endowed scholarship highlights our shared commitment to empowering local students and supporting their academic pursuits,” said Lana Fontenot, Executive Director of the Foundation for SoLAcc. “We believe that every student deserves access to quality education, and this scholarship will make that vision a reality for years to come.”
By investing in the potential of local students, both the Foundation and the Acadia Parish Police Jury are paving the way for a brighter future. For more information about the endowed scholarship or the Foundation for SoLAcc, please visit the Foundation webpage.
