The Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS is offering free upcoming screenings at their Crowley clinic location on February 23 and 25, and there is still space for people to sign up!
CIS will host free cardiovascular screenings from 1-4 PM on Tuesday, February 23, and 8-11 AM on Thursday, February 25. On each day the screenings will be held at their Crowley clinic location at 1325 Wright Avenue.
Guests who sign up will receive complimentary electrocardiogram (EKG) and ankle brachial index (ABI) screenings. An EKG is a test that records the electrical signals of the heart. It can detect blockages, the thickness of the heart wall, past heart attacks and more. An ABI exam is used to test the blood flow in the legs to determine risk of vascular disease. Both exams are simple and painless.
Results will be reviewed on site. Risk factors of vascular disease include family history, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes, as well as smoking, being overweight or being inactive.
