The Acadia Parish Chamber of Commerce is honored to announce that Nancy Broadhurst has been chosen as the 2022 Humanitarian of the Year in conjunction with Acadia Parish Honors Annual Banquet and Awards Ceremony.
Nancy is responsible for leading the efforts to secure and manage philanthropic resources to support the mission of Acadiana’s largest non-profit, regional health system, Ochsner Lafayette General where she serves as the Foundation Executive Director.
Outside of her leadership role and duties with Ochsner, Nancy knows the value of community service and to improving the lives of others. Since moving from New Orleans back to her hometown of Crowley in 2005, Nancy has served her community with passion and perseverance making significant contributions through her time, actions, talents, and dedication. She serves as a role model to make her community a better place to live, work and play.
Broadhurst has made an impact for her humanitarian service devoting herself to various initiatives promoting city beautification, the arts, education, disaster response, human services, and improving healthcare. Over the years through her community volunteer efforts, demonstration of outstanding fundraising abilities, civic and charitable board responsibility, and personal generosity, she has encouraged others to give back to their community, making her an outstanding nomination for the Acadia Parish Chamber of Commerce 2022 Humanitarian of the Year.
Named as a “Leader in Philanthropy” by The Community Foundation of Acadiana in 2019, Nancy says “Giving back helps build stronger communities and adds to personal growth and development while building a sense of unity and purpose in life. What better way is there to form relations than through community service, where you can simultaneously engage with individuals from different backgrounds and cultures while helping effect positive change.”
Community service and philanthropy continue to be dear passions of Nancy. She said she hopes to continue to live every day for years to come to improve society and inspire others to recognize the value and significance of giving back to the community.
Broadhurst earned her bachelor’s degree in marketing and business administration from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Later she attended the Protocol School of Washington in Washington, D.C. where she was trained and certified to teach business and international protocol. In addition, she holds a certified nursing assistant certification. She was married for 26 years and is the widow of well-known and respected attorney and political strategist William C. Broadhurst.
Nancy will be honored on Wednesday, May 4th at the Grand Opera House of the South during the Chamber’s Acadia Parish Honors.In addition, the chamber will honor several other individuals for their contributions to the community including Business of the Year and seven Outstanding Young Citizens.
