Eight Winn-Dixie locations in south Louisiana will no longer be Winn-Dixie stores according to this recent article by KPEL.
The Brookshire Grocery Company (BGC) and Southeastern Grocers announced Thursday The eight stores–seven of which are in Acadiana–will soon become part of the Super 1 Foods brand.
The locations undergoing the identity change include Winn-Dixie stores in Breaux Bridge, Franklin, New Iberia, Abbeville, Crowley, Rayne, Eunice and New Roads.
Fortunately, the changes will not mean these local communities lose a grocery store many resident rely upon. In this case the stores are just changes their brand.
Also, many of these stores are anchor sites at their respective commercial developments. So, the smaller stores that neighbor the soon-to-be-former Winn-Dixie stores, may still have the same consumers nearby, therefore protecting business.
Lafayette–once home to four Winn-Dixie locations– have seen those anchor stores closed or bought by other businesses.
Brookshire’s had made recent additions with Super 1 Food stores on Ambassador Caffery Parkway near Youngsville and just north of I-10 in Scott. Now, expect to see even more of those iconic green and gold signs.
After the closing process is completed, it is anticipated that the stores will undergo a brief transition period with the goal of re-opening within a matter of days under the Super 1 Foods banner.
BGC worked with The Food Partners, a grocery industry investment banking firm, as a strategic and financial advisor for this acquisition.
