A Legacy of Local Milling
In Acadia Parish, where rice farming is a way of life, Falcon Rice Mill has been a trusted name for generations. Established in the 1940s by the Trahan family patriarch, the mill’s story is one of perseverance, tradition, and commitment to supporting local farmers.
What began as a seed dealership—buying and selling rice for farmers to plant—quickly evolved into a full-scale milling operation in the 1950s. The original mill building, constructed during that era, still stands today and continues to house the company’s operations. Though the industry has changed over the decades, Falcon Rice Mill has remained steadfast in its dedication to producing quality rice while supporting the agricultural community that surrounds it.
“We buy all of our rice from within a 50-mile radius of the mill,” says Robbie Trahan, third-generation miller at Falcon Rice Mill. “The farming community and the mills are kind of connected at the hip. We need their product, and they need outlets to sell their rice. It’s a true partnership.”
By sourcing locally, Falcon Rice Mill not only ensures freshness and quality but also strengthens the economic backbone of the parish, keeping dollars in the community and sustaining the farming families who help make Acadia Parish the Rice Capital.
While the company is proud of its heritage, it isn’t standing still. Falcon Rice Mill is embarking on a major new project to upgrade its milling process, expand capacity, and modernize operations. “It’s a big step and a big investment,” Robbie says. “But it shows we’re here to stay, and we want to be here for the industry.”
For Robbie, carrying on his grandfather’s legacy is deeply personal. “I actually never met him—he passed away before I was born—but I hear a lot of stories about him from people around town. You wonder what he would think of the place, walking around nowadays. It’s special to be a part of something he started so long ago, and hopefully one day our fourth generation will be able to take over.”
Falcon Rice Mill proudly produces Cajun Country Rice, a brand beloved in households across Louisiana and beyond. Each bag represents not only a high-quality product but also decades of tradition and community connection.
