Leadership EXCEL’s July session took a deep dive into one of our region’s most vital sectors—healthcare. From hospital halls to home health labs, the day offered a powerful look at the professionals, partnerships, and facilities that care for our communities every day.
The class began their morning at Ochsner Acadia General Hospital in Crowley, where they were welcomed with breakfast and opening remarks from Caroline Marceaux, CEO of OAGH. Caroline provided an insightful overview of the hospital’s role in serving the community and spoke candidly about the evolving landscape of rural healthcare.
Next, Mia Granger with BridgeWay Hospice shared the compassionate mission of hospice care and the critical support it provides for families navigating end-of-life journeys.
From there, the group traveled to Southwind Healthcare & Rehabilitation for a joint session with Jerad Langley, Administrator of Southwind, and Cory Gatte, Administrator of Encore Healthcare & Rehabilitation. Their discussion highlighted the unique challenges and rewards of long-term care and rehabilitation services, emphasizing the importance of skilled nursing in our region’s care continuum.
Participants also heard from Lennie Boulet of Urgent Care on the Go, who introduced a fresh, mobile approach to urgent medical care. His presentation sparked thoughtful dialogue about how accessibility and innovation can improve patient outcomes in both rural and urban settings.
After lunch, the class made their way to South Louisiana Community College’s Crowley campus to hear from Michael LeJeune, CEO of Acadia St. Landry Hospital. Michael shared his leadership philosophy and how rural hospitals can remain relevant and resilient in an ever-changing healthcare environment.
SoLAcc’s Mary Morrison and Barbara Morgan then guided the group through the college’s Home Health Nursing Lab, where students are gaining hands-on experience to enter the workforce prepared and confident. A tour of the simulation lab provided a glimpse into the technology shaping tomorrow’s healthcare professionals.
The day concluded at In & Out Labs and More, where Tarsha Allen detailed the array of wellness and diagnostic services offered at her locally owned business. Her passion for patient care and community education served as an inspiring end to a full day of learning.
From hospital leadership to hospice care, long-term rehabilitation to health education and entrepreneurship, Healthcare Day provided a holistic view of how dedicated professionals across our region work together to keep Acadiana well.
