As 2020 (finally) nears conclusion, the global pandemic that has rocked our economy still continues to influence each and every person, every day. With a vaccine hopefully coming into availability in the near future, things look brighter as the old year ends and the new begins. Yet things will never be the same after this. Government officials, business owners, and normal citizens alike all understand that our way of life post-COVID will be changed.
With this in mind, Gov. John Bel Edwards established the Resilient Louisiana Commission (RLC) in order to create a plan for the state going forward; a plan focused on short term recovery as well as looking ahead to long term goals. Its vision, as every person’s should be, is to not only respond and recover from the COVID pandemic, but to come back stronger, and more resilient, than ever.
The RLC has released their report called the Comprehensive Game Plan for a More Resilient Louisiana. Due to the hard work and dedication of over 300 diverse leaders across the state, the Commission was able to put together this report for all to consider. Their recommendations come in two forms: near-term and long-term.
Near-term Recommendations:
- Putting health and safety first
- Supporting employees
- Taking care of our children and teachers
- Extending federal funding
- Stimulating our economy
- Supporting our small businesses
- Establishing guidelines for liability
- Improving regulatory efficiency
- Investing in infrastructure
Long-term Recommendations:
- Equity, inclusion and quality of life
- Digital access and physical infrastructure
- Education and workforce development
- Small business and entrepreneurship
- Government engagement
Through the next few posts, we will flesh out these recommendations given from the RLC. Each one has benefits for all residents of the state, whether they be business owners, consumers, or government officials. The more citizens recognize and understand the struggles that we all go through, the better the state may come together as one, a more resilient Louisiana.
