Gov. John Bel Edwards announced Monday, April 27 that he is extending his stay-at-home order through May 15, saying some regions of Louisiana haven’t shown enough progress in fighting the coronavirus outbreak to lessen widespread restrictions on businesses and public gatherings.
But if the state’s rate of infections continues to decline, Governor Edwards said he expects his restrictions will begin to loosen on May 16 by making that announcement on May 11.
In yesterday’s press conference, Governor John Bel Edwards made 3 major changes in the new Stay at Home order include:
- Malls will remain closed to the public, but stores may open for curbside delivery.
- Restaurants will be allowed to open their outside areas for patrons to eat meals only, without table-side service.
- All employees of a business who have contact with the public must wear a mask.

- Water/Wastewater
- Churches that hold the outside services have to maintain social distancing guidelines, only family members can sit together, masks must be worn. If a church were to set up a tent outside, it would have to be tents without the sides.

- All personal care and grooming businesses, including but not limited to, barber shops, beauty salons, nail salons, spas, massage parlors, tattoo parlors, and other similar businesses.
- Gyms & fitness centers.
- All malls, except for stores in a mall that have a direct outdoor entrance and exit that provide essential services and products.
