In conjunction with the recent Acadia Parish Chamber of Commerce’s Business After Hours, South Louisiana Community College cut the ribbon on its new Power Lineman program. Above, SLCC officials were joined by personnel from Lafayette Utilities Systems, CLECO, SLEMCO, and Entergy, who have partnered with SLCC’s Corporate College to offer this program in Acadia Parish. The industry partners have shown their support through the donation of equipment — such as the bucket truck shown above — needed to train local Certified Line Workers. Also on hand were Acadia Chamber officials along with a number of local, parish and state elected officials. Chancellor Dr. Natalie Harder, addresses the large crowd gathered for the Business After Hours, explaining that the Power Lineman program is the first in the state, thanking the school’s partners for their dedication to the program.
