Brookshire Grocery, the parent company of Super 1 Foods, says they have helped to feed more than 18,000 families as part of their 37th annual Spirit of Christmas Food Drive.
Super 1 Foods, Spring Market, and FRESH by Brookshire stores in nearly 150 communities participated in the drive which took place between October 31 and December 20. The stores collected donations of non-perishable food items to be distributed to local service organizations.
In addition, the company sold approximately 55,000 pre-assembled grab bags of food items for donation and raised close to $60,000 in monetary donations, with the funds used to purchase additional food items for the drive.
“We are proud to host the Spirit of Christmas Food Drive and to have assisted 18,000 households,” said Brad Brookshire, Chairman and CEO for Brookshire Grocery Co. “Hunger relief is a cause we work to support in our communities all year long, but it is especially meaningful to help individuals in need during the holiday season. We are very thankful for the generous support of our customers and local service organizations to make this possible.”
Brookshire Grocery Co. began sponsoring the Spirit of Christmas Food Drive in 1982 in partnership with the Rose City Kiwanis Club in Tyler, Texas. The food drive now provides about a half-million pounds of food to people in need throughout the company’s market areas each year.
